Spirited footy game

WARWICK Cowboys secretary Gary Hanson reckons the A-grade game against Gatton yesterday is the best he has seen in 20 years.

Gatton beat Warwick 37-18 in A-grade.

Hanson said both sides played spirited footy with some tough, old-fashioned hard defence.

“Prop Garry Ellery was our best while David Hallman’s work rate was unbelievable,” Hanson said.

Hooker Aaron McVeigh was strong in the forwards, with halfback Paul Cantwell again showing the way for the backs.

John Trindall, McVeigh and Ellery scored tries and Michael O’Keefe kicked three goals.

In reserve grade, Warwick lost 44-10.

Scott Beard, Scott Fisher and James Olsen were the best players for Warwick. Joe McIvor and Xylon Smith scored tries and Fisher landed a goal.

Warwick kept on track for a top-five berth in the under-18 grade with a 62-0 victory against Gatton.

Eleven players scored tries with Jeremy Jerome landing eight goals and Shaq Tonga one.

Brodie Murphy, Jeremy Jerome and O’Keefe were the best.

Warwick plays Wattles on Sunday at Platz Oval in three grades.
