Splendour in the Grass line-up

GOTH rocker Jack White and alternative rockers Smashing Pumpkins will headline this year's Splendour in the Grass.

The three-day music festival returns to Byron Bay's Belongil Fields this year with an impressive line-up including British acts Bloc Party and The Kooks and American post-hardcore band At The Drive-In in their only Australian shows.

Today's first line-up announcement also included international indie darlings The Shins, Lana Del Rey, Gossip and Miike Snow.

Joining the visitors on the bill is an equally impressive contingent of Aussie acts including Hilltop Hoods, 360, Kimbra, Wolfmother, Angus Stone and Tame Impala.

"The show has grown over the past few years with the addition of an extra day," said Splendour co-producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco.

"We have a bunch more bands on the line-up and new venues like The Forum, the Very Small Mall and Day Spa etcetera, plus we've got some surprises in store this year.

"It will definitely be the best Splendour ever staged in Byron Bay."

The festival spent two years at Woodford in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland as organisers searched for a larger site outside Byron to expand the event.

To accommodate more punters at Belongil Fields, this year's camping will be offsite at Byron's North Beach Campground.

Tickets for the twelfth annual festival, which runs from July 27 to 29, go on sale Friday April 27 at 9am through Moshtix.
