Sporting events draw visitors to Southern Downs
SPORTS EVENTS: There will be action all weekend in the February Open Shoot at the Warwick Pistol Club and the Warwick Tennis Association Junior Tournament.
If anyone sees any no vacancies signs on Warwick motels, odds are shooting and tennis might have a bit to do with it.
The pistol shooting at the Warwick club range, in Rosehill Rd, and the tennis at the association courts, in Fitzroy St, attracted a total of more than 100 competitors from as far as Emerald.
Spectators are welcome at both venues, admission free.
Denny a monthly winner
ALLORA athlete Matthew Denny is a finalist for the Sports Darling Downs awards in Toowoomba tonight.
Denny is a previous overall winner of the regional award and is the August winner after representing Australia at the Olympics where he was 19th in discus.
He also rose to prominence this week with a group of south-west Queensland locals "talking rubbish” with the Queensland Murray-Darling Committee (QMDC) in a bid to stop roadside littering.
Arguably the campaign's most recognisable clean-up champion is Denny, who literally threw his support behind the concept by hitting a rubbish bin with a discus for the television commercial.
