Sports dinner toasts 20 years

MORE than 400 sportsmen and women have won monthly sports star awards in the past 20 years.

Some have won more than one monthly award and others have won monthly junior and senior awards.

Since Christmas, the Daily News has been advertising the 20th anniversary Daily News/Warwick Credit Union sports star dinner on March 9 at Kings at the Warwick RSL Club and seeking addresses of past monthly winner.

Nationally acclaimed poet Marco Gloiri will be the guest presenter on the night.

More than 200 invitations have been sent out to monthly winners, but we seek the help of readers to ensure we can contact most of the winners well before the dinner.

In future editions, we will print the list of winners from each five-year period.

Information on the contact details of past winners, their addresses, emails and phone numbers to gerardw@warwickdailynews.com.au, phone 4660 1313.

The junior awards have been sponsored by the Warwick Credit Union and Daily News since their inception. Real estate agent Richard Thew sponsored the senior awards from nine years in conjunction with the Daily News, real estate agent Ian Millikin for two years and the Warwick Credit Union for the past eight years.

The March 9 dinner will be a celebration of the past 20 years, not only of the sports awards, but sport on the Southern Downs and anyone with an interest in sport is welcome to come along.

Tables can be booked for groups.

Tickets are from the Warwick Daily News office, cash, cheque or credit card for $35 each.
