Sports represented at annual award dinner
TEN sports will be represented at the annual Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Year dinner at Kings at the Warwick RSL Club on Monday, May 5.
Tickets for the dinner went on sale this week at the Daily News.
There are two monthly winners from cricket, one in January and one in December, and two winners in netball, a player and an umpire.
The overall winner will receive a $1000 cheque from the Warwick Credit Union and the Warwick RSL Club Club Person of the Year $500 from the Warwick RSL.
Performances in all sports in the 2013 year will determine the major winners.
The four judges, who are independent of the award sponsors, will look at local performances on the field and volunteer work off the field in determining the winner of the RSL trophy and $500.
A guest speaker is being arranged for the dinner.
The senior awards started in 1994 when Australian representative shooter Greg Newey was the inaugural winner. He went on to win a second overall award at a time where he won a World Cup in combination with Michael Diamond and Russell Mark, two shooters who have won Olympic gold.
It is hoped all monthly winners for the dinner can be joined by family, friends and representative of their sports on the night.
