WHILE it has been a few years since Claire Cunningham received a Valentine's Day gift she still thinks everyone should have today's date marked in their calendars.

As the owner of the Enchanted Garden nursery Mrs Cunningham has seen her fair share of love-struck people purchasing flowers for the special day.

"We sell some single flowers," she said.

"The thrifty romantics enjoy buying a rose plant because it lasts a bit longer than a day."

When it comes to picking a Valentine's Day gift for that special someone Mrs Cunningham said you could not go past flowers and chocolates.

"Chocolates because they are nice and sweet and lovely," she said.

"There are lots of aspects to love, and flowers symbolise that I think."

Mrs Cunningham said over the past few years the focus had moved away from love.

"It is an important day, but it needs to focus more on love," she said.

"Years ago young kids at school would make and give each other cards."
