Springborg aboard as Friend of QCWA
SOUTHERN Downs MP Lawrence Springborg has become one of the first men in Queensland to join the Queensland Country Women's Association as a friend of the organisation.
The decision to allow men to join as Friends of the QCWA was made following the state meeting in Gladstone in October.
Mr Springborg said he had long admired the work of the women's organisation in regional communities, and said he was inspired to support their continuing work in country Queensland.
"The CWA is an amazing organisation and they are such an integral part of Queensland regional life,” he said.
"They are highly regarded and highly respected and really give voice not only to women and kids in regional area, but are a great representative of everyone there.
"Even more broadly, for me, the decision to join was about what I could to support a fantastic organisation.”
Mr Springborg said he had only recently joined and was unsure whether he would be assigned to one particular branch, but he was still pleased to be able to help support the QCWA, now in its 94th year.
"They've just come up with this concept of Friends of the CWA so I don't know what they'll do with it exactly,” he said.
"As far as I know I'm one of the first to join in Queensland, and for me it's more about supporting them.
"I'm not a very good knitter nor am I very good at a lot of the other things they do, so I'm not bothered about being less involved.
"I just want to be supporter of their wonderful cause and wonderful organisation.”
