Sprinter to Brisbane after major success at regionals
ATHLETICS: Assumption College student Jackson Pitstock is one of many from the Southern Downs heading to this year's State championships.
He lives at Allora and is in Year 7 at Assumption College.
Already this year he has won the Darling Downs championship in the 200m and finished fourth in the 100m after a bad start.
He qualified for the Darling Downs championships with excellent performances in all his events at the Southern Downs Athletics Championships at Allora.
At the Southern Downs carnival, he won the 100m final, 200m final, discus, high jump and long jump and came second in shot put.
Jackson started the athletics season with strong performances at the Assumption College Carnival, where he won the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, long jump, triple jump and high jump with record times and distances.
He also won the 12 years javelin and discus and was second in shot put to finish with 10 placings.
While all the local action is over for the school athletics season, Jackson is one of many still training as Southern Downs will take one of its largest contingent of athletes to State championships in years 10-19.
Jackson is at secondary school but will compete in the 10-12 years State carnival at the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre in Brisbane on October 10-11.
He will be in the 100m, four by 100m relay and 200m.
His younger brother Darcy, a student of St Patrick's Allora, came third at regionals to qualify in the 10 years long jump for the championships in Brisbane.
The 13-19 years State championships will also be held in Brisbane on October 12-15.
Athletes in the 10-12 years state championships will have the opportunity to vie for State selection for the nationals in Adelaide in early December.
Schools with athletes heading to the state championships are welcome to submit photos to gerardw@warwick dailynews.com.au with details of their events.
