SSAA Warwick branch is open to recruits
RIFLE SHOOTING: The Warwick district branch of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia, Queensland, holds shoots each week at Risdon Range.
The club has 80 active members who shoot at 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300-yard distances. Many shooting complexes still measure distances in imperial measurements.
The SSAA branch was formed 52 years ago and was the fourth formed in Queensland after Belmont (Brisbane), Ipswich and Toowoomba.
Regular competitions are held in field rifle and air rifle (first Sundays), international rimfire benchrest (second Sundays), rimfire groups, centrefire/benchrest, groups and hunter class (third Sundays), club meetings, barbecue and hunter class rimfire match (fourth Saturday night).
On the fourth Sunday of the month, the club has a .22 combination match which is geared towards giving shooters from 11-17 years of age experience and competition practice.
The branch holds state or national competitions three times a year.
Many of the parents in the club can't attend weekend competitions so the club is starting a rimfire competition for all ages on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month from 5.30pm, starting January 10. Prospective members can try the sport but specific requirements must be met.
