St Mark’s heritage comes to life in Mayday fun
WARWICK residents will be able to dance around the maypole and take a step back in time at St Mark’s this weekend.
The historic Anglican church will host Heritage open days tomorrow and Sunday as part of the National Trust Queensland Heritage Festival.
Co-ordinator Sue Nalder said the days would feature a number of activities, including heritage music from the Warwick Community Orchestra.
“The East Street Singers will be dressed in their medieval outfits and also sing music of the era,” she said.
“The Warwick group from the Society for Creative Anachronism – Canton of Stegby will also be in medieval costumes.”
The Canton of Stegby crew will perform maypole dance routines and encourage people of all ages to join in the fun on Sunday.
There will also be the debut performance of a new group of recorder players, Crescendo.
“All of the weekend’s events are part of the larger emphasis on the heritage of St. Mark’s, leading up to the 150th anniversary in 2018,” Mrs Nalder said.
“We will also be launching a new booklet devoted to the magnificent stained glass windows in the church which include some fine examples of the master William Bustard.”
The open days will also include guided tours, and stalls with books, cooking and craft.
There will also be a church service from 8.30am on Sunday.
