Condamine Medical Centre staff boost of six new doctors
CONDAMINE Medical Centre has welcomed six new doctors to its staff.
The new staff will work with Warwick Hospital to improve service availability for the Rose City.
Carol Webster-Gom, Joel Keene and Simon Ho will work full-time at the Wood St practice, while Brendon Evans, Brent Collins and Catherine MacDonald will also be working part-time at Warwick Base Hospital.
Dr Lynton Hudson said having extra doctors would hopefully provide better appointment access for patients.
"We are open seven days a week so we're really trying to boost our services so people feel we're always here and there's someone they can see," Dr Hudson said.
"Our hope is to provide more services (at the centre) and work with the hospital to bring more skills to town.
"The hope is that some of the doctors will stay long-term and bring obstetrics and anaesthetics skills so it's sort of succession planning for the town so we can continue providing these services."
Dr Hudson said the new doctors were arriving in stages but said the centre was happy with the recruits.
"We're finding a lot but not all of them are from rural backgrounds, which is helpful in terms of their experience in rural medicine and ensuring they're happy in Warwick," he said.
"They're all really nice and we're happy with the new team we have."
Dr Evans, Dr Keene and Dr Webster-Gom have already started at the centre and said they were happy to get settled in the Rose City.
"This is one of the biggest GP practices I've been around and I've got family here so it's been really good," said Dr Evans, who specialises in obstetrics and paediatrics
"I'm from Rockhampton and specialise in emergency matters and everyone here has been welcoming to us," Dr Keene said.
"I had a really good impression of Warwick from the first interview and everyone at the centre has gone out of their way to support us and make us feel welcome," Dr Webster-Gom said.
"I like seeing women and children, and I'd really like to polish up on treating older patients as well."
