Reader stunned by level of Warwick Hospital staff compassion

I AM writing this letter to you and your staff as I sit beside my beautiful husband's bed in our Warwick Hospital.

Over the past nine days, I have sat and slept at times at this hospital as my husband is in palliative care dying from cancer.

I have read in the paper some very negative reports and realising people are entitled to their own opinions, I would like at this time to give our wonderful hospital and all the staff who work here a very positive report.

I have spent a lot of time over my 71 years in major hospitals in the private and public sectors but never have I seen such love and compassion shown by staff, from the wardspersons up to the highest level of nursing staff, towards their patients in the wards and also in palliative care.

I have a lot of time to observe first hand the happenings that go on and the true care and compassion shown has stunned me.

No matter how busy the staff are they seem to have the time to spend with each and every patient.

They also have a wonderful team of doctors on staff who appear to be run ragged but they also show care and compassion to each and every patient and their family, as I have stated, it stuns me.

I have lived in this world long enough to know there are always going to be people you can never satisfy no matter what you do for them but I will never, never understand such negative reports about our hospital and our wonderful staff.

My husband and I shifted from Brisbane to Warwick 11 years ago and we have no regrets about this move.

The only regret I have is that my beautiful husband will not be here for our 51st wedding anniversary next month, but then I have had the greatest pleasure of being his wife for the time we have had together.

The world is losing a beautiful man but God is gaining back his beautiful child.

I will miss him so very much as he certainly was a beaut husband and my best friend.

Yours faithfully,

Kay Cliffe
