Stanthorpe student drowns in NSW

THE body of 17 year-old Brendan Sweetman was located shortly after 5pm yesterday at Boonoo Boonoo Falls in northern New South Wales after he went missing Monday afternoon.

The Tenterfield youth attended high school at St Joseph's in Stanthorpe and had recently graduated.

He had been at the national park with friends and went missing after he jumped from a ledge into a waterhole around 1pm.

He failed to resurface and police divers from Sydney were called in to assist the search.

David Fleming, assistant principal at St Joseph's Primary School said that a get-together was arranged for the shocked school community yesterday.

"We just organised something so that all of the kids could see each other and talk about it," Mr Fleming said.
