Stanthorpe home destroyed by fire

A STANTHORPE home was destroyed by fire overnight in a blaze that took fire crews more than nine hours to extinguish.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency services spokeswoman said they were called to the blaze just after 8pm yesterday to find the home well alight.

There was nobody in the building at the time.

She said there were difficulties with access to water on the block, located in the Bapaume area, north-west of Stanthorpe.

"They didn't have any water on site so they had to keep taking a truck out to get more," the spokeswoman said.

She said crews were finally able to leave the scene in the hands of fire investigators just after 5.30am today.
