Stanthorpe residents warned to lock up as break-ins continue

STANTHORPE police are warning residents to lock their homes and cars as a spate of break-ins continues in the town.

The warning comes as thieves struck the Stanthorpe Information Centre and another building owned by the Southern Downs Regional Council at the weekend.

Thieves broke into the visitor information at 2.20am on Saturday morning, smashing a window and stealing cash.

The council-owned property on Mackenzie St also had a window smashed, with cash and property also stolen.

Stanthorpe police officer-in-charge Mark Ireland said the break-ins were spontaneous, with thieves relying on property owners leaving their property unsecured.

"If you see anything happening that you believe is remotely suspicious, ring police immediately," he said.

"We would rather attend and find nothing than not attend and let an offender get away."
