State bowl victory for Assumption and St Joseph’s boys

RUGBY LEAGUE: Assumption/St Joseph’s scored two tries to one to beat St Columban’s at Caboolture 12-4 in the Confraternity Bowl final at Rockhampton this morning.

Overall 48 teams played in the Confraternity Shield competition.

Assumption/St Joseph’s winger Blake Lollback scored in the first half when he capped off a great backline move with a try in the corner.

Tom Morris converted from wide out for a 6-0 lead.

Midway through the second half, Assumption/St Joseph’s back rower Cody Byrne darted over from five metres out when he used a low body position to beat the defence. Morris converted for a 12-4 lead.

Assumption/St Joseph’s rose to the occasion late in the game with strong defence and a good kick chase to maintain the eight-point lead.

While Nick Van Der Poel, Thomas Duggan and Cody Byrne were everywhere in attack and defence for Assumption/St Joseph’s, the bench also contributed with Sam Williamson taking two hits ups out of three at one stage late in the game.

Duggan was player of the match for his team.

Assumption is also playing in netball in the QISSN competition in Rockhampton which finishes today.
