State cycling silver for Warwick trio
CYCLING: Three Warwick riders were part of the Darling Downs A team that was second in the under-19 team time trial in the Queensland Cycling Championships at North Stradbroke Island at the weekend.
The Warwick trio Ethan Sloss, Jorge Muehlebach and Steven Fern rode as Team A for the Darling Downs Cycling Club and finished second behind the Balmorel A team from Brisbane.
Warwick cyclist Laura Brazier managed both teams.
"Ethan won a state medal at the state track championships earlier this year but the time trial medals were the first at state level for Jorge and Steven,” she said.
The Warwick cyclists train at the velodrome in Australiana Park in Warwick and compete under the banner of the Darling Downs club.
Darling Downs Team B included three boys from Toowoomba.
Brazier also competed winning silver in the WMas5 age group in the individual time trial and gold in the team time trial as part of a composite team.
"It was my best results individually since I started cycling three years ago,” Brazier said.
Warwick cyclist Rob Partington was fourth in the strong field in the MMas6 individual time trial and won bronze in the team event. Two weeks earlier, Partington completed the Cunningham Classic from Gatton to Warwick, a ride of 96km, which attracted more than 200 riders.
Many of the Warwick riders will head to Goombungee on September 3 for a handicap road race over 42km. Warwick will also be represented in the national masters road championships at the Gold Coast at the end of October.
