Medal harvest at state championships
ATHLETICS: Warwick Little Athletics Centre members won four medals at the state championships in Cairns.
Eight Warwick athletes competed in the three-day championships.
A group of 20 from Warwick travelled north and centre manager Mark McGowan is claiming they brought the rain back with them to Warwick.
"There was 150mm on Thursday and Friday and some of the events had to be postponed for one hour as it was too wet," McGowan said.
"It was sunny for the last day of the championships so we hope the rain has all come south."
Jack Bannister won gold in under-16 discus with a distance of 64.12 metres, a new state record and personal best.
Bannister has now moved with his family to New Guinea but gained selection for the Darling Downs team earlier in the season.
Sam Waller won silver in the under-13 high jump with a leap of 1.6m.
Ben Lyons was third in the under-11 high jump and second in javelin. Last year, he was a medallist at the nationals in school competition.
Bryana McGowan ran a season best in the 100m and a personal best in the 200m in the under-12 age group.
Waller was fifth in long jump and triple jump and recorded a PB in triple jump.
Thomas Mouws from the Granite Belt competes with the Warwick club and was ninth in the 800m and 11th in the 1500m, equalling his personal best.
Christie Lyons, Michael Duncan and Mitchell Lyons all performed well in their respective events.
