State selection beckons
JOSIE McCosker has been selected as a shadow player for the Queensland under-15 schoolgirls' netball team.
The Year 10 Warwick State High School player was at goal defence, goal keeper and wing defence for Darling Downs in the state championships in Brisbane last week.
"I am pretty stoked to be named as a shadow, my best position is goal defence," McCosker said.
She was part of the regional team which finished fifth at the state championships after recording a 32-18 victory against Capricornia in the play off for fifth.
McCosker, who has played netball in Warwick for the past five years, is in the Grenades team in Warwick A-grade netball.
If she is called into the Queensland side, she will head to the nationals in Darwin in August.
Scots PGC boarder Jess Jackson also played for Darling Downs in the state championships.
Assumption College student Hayley Millard was judged most improved umpire at the titles after being an official for the past year.
"I have umpired at inter-district level and was asked to umpire at the state championships," Millard said.
"I enjoyed it but still prefer playing. I umpire for a bit of fun."
McCosker has no doubt her Grenades teammate has a future in umpiring.
"Hayley is definite but fair as an umpire," she said.
