Statewide wreckage with 20-plus crashes in 24 hours

A SPATE of crashes in the last 24 hours has left Queensland's emergency services busy and multiple people in hospital.

The Sunshine State has recorded at least 23 traffic crashes since 6pm yesterday.

The most serious occurred just before 7pm in the Central Queensland town of Banana and saw three women in their 20s flown to Rockhampton Hospital.

One of the women was thrown from the vehicle suffering serious abdominal and possible spinal injuries.

Just before midnight, two police vehicles crashed north of Brisbane following a fuel drive off in Logan.

Twenty-eight police vehicles were involved in the chase after the man sped off from a petrol station in Waterford West about 10.30pm.

Two police officers received minor whiplash when their vehicles crashed into each at Murrumba Downs.

Earlier today, a man was taken to hospital after an incident involving a tractor on the Pacific Motorway at Loganholme about 9.50am.

Just after 12pm a person was taken to Mackay Hospital after their car crashed into a tree. They suffered back, spinal, arm and ankle injuries but was in a stable condition.

Other crashes have occurred in Springwood, Oxenford, Thursday Island and Berserker.

In Bardon a person was taken to hospital with significant leg injuries after slamming into a parked car on Coopers Camp Rd about 10pm in Bardon.

The Queensland Police Service has urged safety and caution when using the road.

"Road safety is a shared responsibility - everyone must play their part in road safety whether it is by complying with the road rules, enforcing them, or educating others in safe behaviours," a spokesman said.
