Steam power to see flowers

SIXTY passengers boarded the Southern Downs Steam Train for its inaugural trip to the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers at the weekend.

Train guard Adam Cole and fireman Nick Geraghty were grateful they did not run into any rain on the way to Toowoomba.

"It should be good driving as long as it doesn't rain," Mr Geraghty said before the train departed the Warwick Train Station at 8am sharp on Saturday.

And while Southern Downs Steam Railway committee member Lindsay Mills did not make the trip he said he had only had positive feedback.

"It was the first time we had made a trip to Toowoomba during the Carnival of Flowers and it was most successful," he said.

"We plan to do it again next year, on the second weekend of the Carnival of Flowers.

"It worked out well and the train was back in Warwick by 5.15pm.

"All the passengers were very happy."

Mr Mills said the passengers had the chance to explore six gardens on their bus tour, which was complete with lunch at the South Toowoomba Bowls Club.

The train did make one stop on the way into Toowoomba, collecting a few passengers from the Clifton station.

Mr Mills said this was a great option to save people from Toowoomba and Clifton having to drive all the way into Warwick to get on board the train.
