Steketee 'denied' a Shield century
HOWZAT with Michael Bourke
THIS week we saw Warwick's Mark Steketee dismissed for Queensland while batting off a ricochet shot that collected a close in fielder's helmet to rebound to another NSW fielder for a simple catch.
A player cannot be dismissed this way in Test cricket and under normal cricket rules. My biased eye says that if the Sheffield Shield rule makers did not adjust the playing condition last year to allow this dismissal then we could have seen Mark score the final 47 runs to score his maiden Shield century.
Accidental Hero Heazlett
IT SEEMS to me that Queensland batsman Sam Heazlett has become the accidental hero.
Recently Australian captain Steve Smith pulled out of the New Zealand tour with injury and Heazlett was called in as the replacement.
He scored a century for the Australian under 19 side against England a couple of years ago after being called in as a late replacement player.
I watched Heazlett make his Brisbane Heat BBL debut at the Gabba after coming in as a replacement player. This week we saw George Bailey pull out of the Prime Minister's XI game with injury for Heazlett to come in and score a quick 58 runs.
My horse tip for the Lightning Stakes on Saturday is for the Bryce Heys-trained Spieth.
