Steward steps up to be Warwick Show ambassador

WITH the excitement of Warwick Show just around the corner, rural ambassador entrant Shelley Doyle has stepped forward to compete for the chance to represent Warwick's show and agriculture industry.

The rural ambassador's contest is run in conjunction with the Warwick Showgirl quest, with both roles elected ahead of the show next month.

Miss Doyle said she was excited to have the chance to be an ambassador for the show.

"It's only the second year the Warwick Show has held this competition so it's all still a bit new," Miss Doyle said.

"I've been involved with the show society for a couple of years now as chief steward of the stud cattle and led steers competitions.

"I've grown up in Warwick and District around the show competing in stud cattle and it's great now to have taken a more hands on role."

When she's not hands on at the showgrounds, Miss Doyle is studying vet nursing and working part-time at Condamine Vet Clinic, as well as working part-time at Eye Care Eye Wear in Rose City Shoppingworld.

Thanks to her experience with country shows, the 28-year-old said she was well prepared to become rural ambassador for Warwick.

"As part of the criteria, we have to have a vested interested in the show society," Miss Doyle explained.

"It's all about trying to get more youth involved in the agricultural show movement and rural industry.

"I have a lot of friends who have competed for the role through other show societies previously who encouraged me to compete.

"I'm not sure who else is in the running but Warwick Show Society has been supportive so it's really exciting."

Miss Doyle said her number one focus if elected would be to encourage new initiatives to have future generations continue the country show legacy.

"I'd definitely want to focus on getting younger people involved," she said.

"I also want to educate people about rural industry and where products come from.

"I think lots of people are sort of out of touch with our agricultural industries and are unsure of where their products really come from."

Warwick Show Society rural ambassadors and 2016 Showgirl will be announced this weekend.
