Operation Taurus charges 11 motorists with drug driving

MOTORISTS crossing the New South Wales border were targeted by police Operation Taurus this week, with multiple agencies lending a hand.

On Wednesday and Thursday more than 50 officers combined with officers from Queensland Transport and Toowoomba Stock and Rural Crime Investigation squads to set up three locations at Wallangarra, Inglewood and Goondiwindi.

Officers conducted 1578 roadside breath tests and 91 drug tests, with 11 motorists charged with drug driving. More than 400 heavy vehicles were intercepted and 39 traffic infringement notices issued.

Inglewood Senior Constable Matt Shaw said the main offences were speeding and logbook infringements.

"We were happy with the results of Operation Taurus," Snr Const Shaw said.

"It sends a message to motorists that they should be doing the right thing on the road."

At the Wallangarra site, a stolen quad bike worth $8000 was recovered and a man charged.
