Stingers laid to stop wanted man in Warwick

A WARWICK man was flown to Brisbane for medical treatment after he crashed into a tree at high speed in Warwick yesterday.

The man was wanted by police and is currently under police guard in hospital.

Sergeant Shane Reid said police observed the man in a vehicle on Warwick-Allora Rd about 2.30pm.

Police set up stingers in an effort to stop the vehicle.

"The vehicle managed to drive around the stinger deployment, which was unsuccessful,” Sgt Reid said.

"400m down the road the driver lost control colliding with trees.”

Significant damage was caused to the car when it crashed on Mullins Rd, as it became airborne and got its bumper bar caught in a tree.

Sgt Reid said both occupants, the man and his partner, were able to get out of the vehicle.

The 33-year-old man and 29-year-old woman, who are both from Warwick, were initially taken to Warwick Hospital for treatment.

The woman was later discharged but the man was airlifted to Brisbane.

Sgt Reid said the man's injuries were not life-threatening and he was awaiting charges for multiple offences.

Police were unable to disclose the nature of the charges.

The woman has not been charged with any offences.
