Stoinis for first drop in one-day team

OPINION with Michael Bourke - Weekly Howzat column

MARCUS Stoinis could find himself getting more opportunities at first drop in the Australian one-day team after scoring a well-made half century in the final one-day match against England.

Stoinis appears to have the technique to keep out the difficult delivery while scoring at a quick rate.

This knock may spell the end of international cricket for fellow Victorian Cameron White after failures early in the series with the bat and being in the twilight of his career in cricketing terms in mid-30s.

Carnival success

THE 2018 Australia Day cricket carnival in Warwick was another huge success.

It appears that the cricketers playing in this carnival tried to embrace the Aussie ways of mateship with the odd joke from the sideline and giving it your best go.

With all these events the volunteers who put the effort in deserve a huge thanks once again.

Horse tip

My horse tip for this Saturday is for Messerschmitt at Caulfield.
