Young golfer stoked with great Christmas gift
WARWICK junior golfer Ben O'Dea wants Christmas to come more often.
The new driver he received as a Christmas present enables him to hit the ball 10m further.
The extra length will help as he walks on to the Tenterfield Golf Club course for a two-day junior tournament starting today. O'Dea, 14, has played or practised five or six days a week during the school holidays.
He played competition on Saturday and was on course on Sunday with his mother Paula to fine tune his form for Tenterfield.
During the school year, he is one of the regulars at Sunday morning junior golf and will be joined by some of his Warwick team-mates at Tenterfield this week.
"The new driver allows me to hit the ball further," he said.
"I will use it in Tenterfield, I have played there before and last year had the best nett on the second day."
O'Dea goes into the Tenterfield tournament in the best form of his career after shooting a career-best 78, nine over, on Saturday.
He plays off a handicap of 12 and is content with where he is at present with his golf career.
"I have been playing consistent golf lately," he said.
This year, he goes into Year 10 at Warwick State High School and plans to try out for the Darling Downs team in secondary school golf.
Three years ago, he represented Darling Downs in primary school golf.
