Storm damage blamed for power outage

STORM damage has been blamed for a major power outage in Warwick and surrounding areas last night.

An Ergon Energy spokesman said the interruption affected about 4200 customer supplied from the West Warwick substation due to an insulator failing during the storm.

"This resulted in the 33kV lines coming into contact with the 11kV lines underneath them at the corner of Ogilvie Road and East Street," the spokesman said.

"Power was restored to these customers at 8.23pm.

"The other major damage was to a high-voltage fuse on a pole on the Yangan feeder.

"This affected about 1200 customers and the restoration wasn't finalised until 11.50pm, but supply was reinstated to most customers before 8pm."

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast for the remainder of Monday is for partly cloudy conditions with a 40% chance of showers late morning and afternoon and the slight chance of a thunderstorm, with a top temperature for Warwick of 27 degrees.
