Strong return to Rose City sales
WARWICK saleyards returned to a normal schedule after a suspended cattle sale on Tuesday for the Australia Day public holiday.
Plenty of buyers, sellers, agents and market spectators were at the yards yesterday for the weekly sheep sale.
"The market's been pretty good," Mr Thorne said.
"I've got a few to sell today but it's only a small mob I've got at home - I just do this for a bit of extra money.
"I've been working with sheep for four or five years now and come to these markets every few weeks when I have some to sell but I skipped over the Christmas sales just because I didn't have any to sell."
Prams are not a usual sight at the sheep yards but the stay-at-home dad had son Liam in tow while his wife was working.
Despite only having a small flock, Mr Thorne said he hoped he could eventually expand his operations.
He said he hoped one day Liam would follow in his father's footsteps and take an interest in working with livestock.
"I guess I'm a bit of a sheep man," he said.
"I was a shearer before I started being a stay-at-home dad and keeping the sheep keeps me a bit busier.
"The ones I've got are lambs for meat, but both wool and meat sheep are both the same as far as working goes.
"My wife works for John Dee as a vet and she likes that she can work while I take care of Liam.
"We're both from rural backgrounds so I'd hope Liam would be interested in it eventually."
