COMMENT: Thoughts are with girl's family and friends

STUDENTS across the Southern Downs will return to school with great joy today, but for one school it'll be a day of great sadness.

The close knit farming community of Kyoomba, near Stanthorpe, will no doubt be shaken by the death of a 13-year-old girl in a tragic farming accident yesterday.

The sudden and unexpected nature of this tragic accident, and the fact it happened just hours before the end of school holidays, adds to the overwhelming grief many will be feeling today.

Tragedy strikes all too often in our small, close-knit communities - rocking us all to the core.

Unfortunately as careful as you can be, as much as you can look after your children - it can only take a split-second for something terrible tragic to happen.

To lose someone so young, with so much life ahead of them in such a shocking way is something you would never wish upon anyone.

I can only begin to imagine the anguish and pain her family are feeling during this incredibly sad time.

I'm sure I speak for the entire community when I say our thoughts and prayers are with the girl's family and friends.
