Students climb new heights at SOTE
THE School of Total Education's playground is abuzz with excitement, following the reopening of the school's famous tree house.
Designed by the school's founder Vijay Yogendra, who built it as a gift to the children, the tree house has been decommissioned for a number of years in light of the rising school safety standards.
The amazing structure winds around a massive eucalypt to a cubby perched on top with the tree growing through it.
SOTE principal Shane Power said the tree house was re-opened after numerous requests from students.
"With the help of local engineer Bob Lane and builder and school parent Chris Collins we worked out a plan to refurbish the existing structure," he said.
A large group of school parents then pooled their skills including powder-coating a new mesh enclosure, regularly working on the structure over a number of months.
Security cameras have also been installed to discourage trespassers.
Year 3 student Ava McLucas said it was wonderful the tree house was open again.
"Ever since I came to the school I have wondered if I will ever be able to go up a real wooden tree house," she said.
The re-vamped tree house was opened on July 24.
The opening ceremony included the children expressing their thanks to all those who helped.
The prep students then cut the ribbon and christened the new structure.
With its new lease of life, the school icon will continue to provide pleasure and joy to children for years to come.
