Students in tune with indigenous community on Harmony Day

HARMONY Day came to the School of Total Education yesterday and was celebrated with musical performances by the school band and a guest choir.

The day is centred on cultural respect and this year's theme was One Australia, Many Stories.

Although the official day is March 21, the school enjoyed a belated celebration because of other commitments last week.

The school band rocked out a couple of songs and had their fellow students, parents and guests singing along in no time.

The Awakening Voices of Harmony were the guest performers and showcased a number of traditional songs for the students.

Member Leroy Brown also entertained and wowed the audience with his talents on the didgeridoo.

Principal Shane Power said the afternoon was a great way to help build cultural respect.

"For us this was a way to celebrate Harmony Day and to invite the Aboriginal community to the school to share their culture with the children," he said.

"We are trying to build an understanding and respect for different cultures."
