Students named in league teams

SIX Southern Downs students have made Darling Downs primary school rugby league teams for carnivals this season.

Zac Stevens (St Mary's), Tanna Alldridge (Warwick Central), Nick Van Der Poel (St Patrick's, Allora) and Jesse Simon (Warwick West) are in the Darling Downs 12 years team to play in the state carnival at Wynnum in the first week of the June/July school holidays.

Goondiwindi teacher Stan McDonnell is again Darling Downs coach.

St Joseph's, Stanthorpe, teacher Mick Grew is team trainer and Brett Harkins, of St Thomas More's in Toowoomba, manager.

The first training run is on May 8 at Collegians oval in Warwick. Training runs will also be held in Toowoomba and Millmerran.

Team members come from Warwick, Allora, Toowoomba, Gatton, Goondiwindi, Pittsworth, Dalby and Millmerran.

After the Darling Downs trials, Noah Kariah (Warwick West) and Cruise Martin-Brown (Glennie Heights) were selected in the 11 years rugby league team to play in the Vic Jensen Cup in Ipswich in the second week of the June/July school holidays.
