Students win Reader’s Cup at Warwick High
YEAR three and four students from across town gathered at Warwick State High School last week to compete in the inaugural Brilliant Awesome Reading Extravaganza for Extraordinary Children.
English head of department Jacinta Boland said the reading event was popular among the primary school students.
"We were completely overwhelmed with the response and had to change our venue twice to accommodate the huge number of children who enjoy reading and teamwork and wanted to participate in this new reading challenge," she said.
"The huge trophy was won by Warwick West State School and will reside there for 12 months before being returned for another battle."
Warwick West State School teacher-librarian Sue Higgins said the children worked hard as a team to win the cup.
"Our school entered eight teams and were delighted to bring home the fantastic trophy from this inaugural event," she said.
Mrs Boland said the school was thrilled to receive support from families, teachers and librarians and are already looking for a date on the calendar for the next event.
