Stylish Cup Day affair for QCWA members
AFTER the formalities and business of QCWA State Conference 2012 which was held recently in Toowoomba, most QCWA Border Division Branches relaxed and enjoyed Melbourne Cup Day celebrations.
Emu Vale branch enjoyed its celebrations with the local hall committee, a tradition they have had for many years.
Karara branch members all dressed for the occasion as they celebrated the cup in fine style at member Toni Brinckman's home.
While at Victoria Hill members gathered at the home of branch president Shirley Erhardt at 9.30am for their monthly meeting.
After a BYO lunch, neighbours in the district were welcomed to their traditional Melbourne Cup party complete with sweeps, competitions and, of course, watching the cup.
Some were lucky to take home some winnings but most just contributed. The event was followed by a delicious afternoon tea.
Ruth hits the stands
IN an exciting first for the Queensland Country Women's Association (QCWA) a new quarterly magazine has just hit the news stands.
Available to the general public through newsagents Ruth - live an inspired life, aims to share the knowledge and inspiration that exists within the QCWA with the wider community.
State president Jennie Hill said: "It is difficult to break down the stereotypes that people have about the QCWA and its members and we hope Ruth goes some way towards doing that.
"There is a wealth of knowledge and some amazing women within the association and we would like to share this beyond the QCWA," she added.
Ruth looks at some of the issues affecting Queensland communities, shares fundraising, cooking and household secrets, provides inspiration to make a change in your life, gives tips on finance, family issues, exercise and fashion, shares insider knowledge of holiday destinations and showcases recipes, gardens and homes.
"The support of members has been wonderful," Mrs Hill said.
"Some of our longest-serving members are featured in the magazine, alongside some of our younger, more recent members.
"The members featured in Ruth all have diverse lives and completely different experiences and stories to contribute, yet this is at heart what the QCWA is about. Interesting and inspiring women supporting each other and their communities."
Ruth is available now in newsagents for $6.95.
