Success for the netball Panthers

DARLING Downs Panthers enjoyed a massive boost to their winning tally during the first cluster weekend of the Tier 2 State League Competition.

Warwick trio Jessica O’Brien, Stephanie O’Brien and Stacey Davison have played for the Panthers for the past two seasons.

Following two straight losses in the competition, the Panthers enjoyed three victories ending the Cluster Weekend undefeated.

Twelve teams from around the state converged at the State Netball Centre in the first of three cluster weekends.

Teams from Marlin Coast, Wide Bay, Capricorn and Magnetic North matched up against eight south-east Queensland teams.

The Panthers played strong over the weekend with wins recorded against Magnetic North Steelcats, Marlin Coast Pumas and Brisbane West’s Yellow Cabs Lions. The next Tier 2 State League Cluster Weekend will be held exclusively for North Queensland teams on May 29-30.

But the Panthers will have a chance to play the remaining teams from the north in the third cluster weekend in June. Netball Queensland CEO Cameron O’Hara says the State League competition is a vital step in the Netball Queensland athlete development pathway.

“It is statewide giving those athletes based regionally the opportunity for development,”he said.
