Summer festival day out

HEAD to Queen's Park this Saturday for some super cool moves, fun activities and some free entertainment all in the one place.

The council, Southern Downs Industry Education Association and headspace have joined up to host the Summer Festival Community Day.

This inaugural event will include skate demonstrations by Brisbane company Drawing Boards, Young Ambassadors and Young Delegates Bullying Awareness Initiative Concert, food, face painting, snow cones, QPS stall, headspace stall and art activities.

At the South West Youth Engagement Forum in November, Young Ambassadors (YAs) and Young Delegates (YDs) identified bullying as a significant issue for young people in our region.

"The YAs and YDs felt that bullying was such an important issue that they decided to use their project money from the forum to hold a concert for young people and provide information about the consequences of bullying," said Hailey Cosh, council's Youth Development Officer.

This information will be available from the QPS and headspace on the day.

Line up for the concert includes local Southern Downs artists, Rhiannon Davies, Konner Hawthorne, Valley Fire, Port Paradise and Gold Coast band Double Lined Minority.

"A big thank you must go to our partners and supporters, SDRC Avenue Program, South West Youth Engagement Forum, Carers Qld, QPS, Telstra - Warwick, Drawing Boards, Zonta Club Warwick, Hire Solutions Warwick, Top Beat, Warwick Redbacks AFL Club and Soular Music Services," Ms Cosh said.
