Sprints attract 65 new competitors
SIXTY-five new competitors have nominated for the Warwick District Sporting Car Club Queensland Super Sprints Series at Morgan Park this year.
A total of 304 drivers have nominated in 19 classes.
The first weekend of racing was last weekend at Morgan Park, when 106 competed in the A series. Some of the drivers lost their cars in the floods and did not compete in round one.
Club president Bill Campbell said six drivers had lost their cars in the floods in south-east Queensland, and others lost equipment and tools.
“They are rightly putting their homes and businesses before their sport,” Campbell said.
There are a few drivers who had water in their homes and businesses in south-east Queensland and won’t be racing for a little while.
The car club will host the Historic Racing Car Club of Queensland this weekend, followed by the first round of the B series sprints on March 5-6 at Morgan Park Raceway.
The sporting car club had a little bit of damage to run-off areas from the heavy rain, but there was no apparent track damage.
Good to see Warwick driver Jamie Furness winning on the famous Bathurst track.
