Superbike riders at Leslie Park to meet the fans
MOTORSPORT: Many of the fastest motorcycle racers in Australia were at the band rotunda in Leslie Park on Thursday afternoon to meet some of the Warwick fans as a forerunner to the Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championships starting Friday.
More than half of the superbike riders were at the meet-and-greet and will be at Morgan Park on Friday for practice. Racing is on Saturday and Sunday.
While the competition will be intense at the weekend, it looked a bit like a school reunion when the riders got together in Leslie Park. It was time for teams to catch up with each other before the action starts.
Troy Bayliss, who was at Leslie Park, won three world superbike championships but is now Ducati team boss and the father of 300cc supersport racer Oli Bayliss.
When the superbike riders got together for a photo with Warwick Rodeo Queen Ashleigh Grant, all eyes were on Bayliss, he had to be in the photo.
Everyone in Australian motorsport is proud of the efforts down the years by riders like Troy Bayliss.
There are 110 riders in the six classes at the weekend, including 20 in the feature superbike class.
The fans will have another chance to see the riders on Friday when there is free admission for practice.
Admission on Saturday and Sunday is $25 a day for adults, $35 for weekend.
Concessional charge is $20 and $25. Children 15 and under free.
