Superbikes love our town and Morgan Park
TUESDAY TANTRUM with Gerard Walsh
THE comments were all positive about Warwick and Morgan Park Raceway after the superbike riders spent the weekend in town.
The Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championships are one of the biggest sporting events on the Southern Downs calendar and the event seems to be growing each year.
We had riders from as far as New Zealand and one junior from Darwin who won a GP round.
Joel Kelso flies from Darwin about once a fortnight to compete.
His racing bike is based in Melbourne and he is supported by Canberra- based sponsor Deborah Motorsports.
What impressed me most about the superbikes were the riders.
They were easy to chat to and couldn't be more helpful at the meet-and-greet in Leslie Park and it was the same at Morgan Park.
On Sunday, I spoke to event winner Wayne Maxwell from Melbourne and he appreciated the importance of promoting the event in Warwick as well as across the nation.
Inglewood victory
THE Inglewood Roosters are premiers again in the Border Rugby League.
Well done to captain- coach Brent Osborne, president Dolly Bennett and all the team.
I was impressed to hear the club volunteers, the women I might add, prepares a meal for the Roosters players after Thursday night training before the grand final.
That is a nice touch and realistically for teams preparing for a grand final it is a much better option than a breakfast.
Tenterfield Tigers haven't won a premiership for a decade and were close this year but will come again.
The Tigers and Killarney are the only clubs in the league to field a team in their own right every season since the league started two decades ago. Brent Osborne won the BRL Border Post/Daily News Player of the Year award.
He is just so consistent.
