COMMENT: Support for mental health to be commended
MENTAL Health Week has kicked off in the Rose City and what an impressive line-up of events we have been offered.
Rose City residents can indulge in a bit of yoga, tai chi, a barbecue lunch and so much more (see p5 for more details).
It's not all party time though, with a Q and A session planned at the Town Hall tonight.
The forum, featuring industry professionals from the Black Dog Institute, will allow participants to ask questions about anything they're concerned or worried about.
Well done to headspace Warwick, Lifeline and Partners in Recovery for organising such a wonderful event list.
It's great to see such strong support and awareness surrounding mental health issues.
To some extent- and in rural and regional areas particularly - there is still somewhat of a stigma surrounding mental health issues.
Awareness weeks like this and the surrounding community support helps to show that those with mental health problems and their loved ones should not be ashamed of their circumstances.
These are problems that affect a large proportion of the community and there are many services available to those in need.
If you or someone you know needs help, please phone Lifeline on 131 114.
