Bus driver ‘punched’ by fare evader

A GOLD Coast bus driver was allegedly punched in the face when a teenager refused to pay his fare on Thursday afternoon.

The attack on the Surfside Buslines employee happened at Robina at about 1.30pm.

A Queensland police spokesman said the alleged offender wasn't able to be located.

The bus driver reportedly let the teenager and his girlfriend on the bus at Robina train station but as the pair exited the bus at Robina Town Shopping Centre he was allegedly attacked.

The driver did not require paramedics but was shaken by the ordeal.

Surfside Buslines general manager Martin Hall confirmed the incident and said the company was monitoring the bus driver's welfare.

"The matter is now the subject of a police investigation," he said.

"All available CCTV footage of the incident will be provided to police to assist in this investigation as we continue to monitor the driver's welfare."

Police are investigating the incident.
