Surprise waterspout hits near Point Arkwright

A WATERSPOUT touched down near Point Arkwright yesterday afternoon, providing locals with plenty of vision for social media.

Reports say the waterspout developed around 3:30pm and lasted about 10 minutes. 

"You get this convection happening and updrafts into the atmosphere," Bureau of Meteorology's Rick Threlfall told the Brisbane Times.

"If you have enough of that with winds moving at different speeds or different directions to the atmosphere you could get one of these waterspouts forming.

"They are normally quite short-lived."
