Swanfels cowboy aims to ride to NSW success
RODEO: After performing strongly in the southern states last year, Swanfels rider Lane Grayson is ready to do it all again.
Grayson competed in saddle bronc in his first Australian Professional Rodeo Association National Finals in late October at the Warwick Rodeo after spending the winter competing in North America.
He will head to southern New South Wales on Saturday to compete in the annual Rosewood Rodeo.
Grayson is the only Warwick area saddle bronc rider heading to Rosewood.
He will face one of the toughest in the business, Brad Pierce from Tooma, who has also nominated.
Pierce has won national titles in the APRA in saddle bronc and been a winner at the Warwick Rodeo.
Rodeos at Rosewood and Trafalgar in Victoria this weekend will be the final preparation for riders in the lead-up to the Christmas Run of rodeo in the APRA starting at Myrtleford in north-east Victoria on Boxing Day.
Former Warwick State High School student Lee Kimber will compete at Trafalgar after winning round 4 of the steer wrestling at the national finals at the Warwick Rodeo.
Kimber is the executive chairman of the APRA and regularly qualifies in his three events, steer wrestling, rope and tie, and team roping at the national finals.
Grayson and his fellow riders from Queensland will have the chance to compete in Victoria at Myrtleford, Yarrawonga and Beechworth, Tumbarumba and Finley in New South Wales and Carrieton in South Australia during the Christmas Run from Boxing Day to January 7.
The Warwick Show and Rodeo Society is planning a New Year's Eve Rodeo at the Warwick Showgrounds with a full program of regular rodeo events as well as a pony buckjump and the Australian Championship Station Buckjump.
