Swann comes out swinging at Kev after book launched

KEVIN Pietersen finished his career having scored more runs for England than any other batsman in history.

Few accounts of his run-scoring deeds have made it into his new autobiography, however. Instead, Pietersen has tried to settle as many scores as he could, taking aim at former teammate Matt Prior (pictured with Pietersen), former coach Andy Flower and others.

Another ex-teammate, Graeme Swann, took a swipe at Pietersen's account of life in the England camp.

"I expected it to be the biggest work of fiction since Jules Verne, and that seems to have happened. I immediately realised it was codswallop when I read the character assassination of Matt Prior," the spinner said.

"Tragically, I don't think Kev realises the one person who fought tooth and nail to keep him in the side is the one person he is now assassinating: Matt Prior."

Swann, who retired midway through the humiliating Ashes thrashing in Australia last summer, added: "Kevin has been quite clever because the guys still playing he has left alone, and he hopes to get back in again one day. He has picked on people who he thinks can't answer back."

Others, such as ex-England captain Nasser Hussain defended Pietersen's right to have his say. "It makes fascinating reading," he said.

Pietersen, who has signed with the Melbourne Stars for the coming Big Bash League, needs a No Objection Certificate from the England and Wales Cricket Board to play in the tournament.
