Swede samples Aussie streets

FROM some of the biggest motor racing tracks in Sweden to the streets of the small town of Leyburn, Swedish driver Ralf Christensson has had his fair share of time behind the wheel.

The Scandinavian was invited to try his luck at the Leyburn Sprints at the weekend by race founder Mike Collins, after the pair met while racing in the US.

Mr Christensson, who was on his first trip to Australia, said there was definitely a difference between motor racing in his home country and racing around the streets of Leyburn.

"Motor racing in Sweden is much more serious," he said.

"This is just a great fun event."

Driving a 1968 Ford Trans Am Mustang, and used as a relief driver of a 1965 model Trans Am, Mr Christensson certainly got plenty of time to show off his skills on the track.

"It's been great fun with great people," he said.

"It's been wonderful... a bit rainy."

As many as 200 drivers and their cars tried their luck on the historic course through the centre of the township of Leyburn.
