Swimmers to pay more for pool, but still 'on a good thing'
ALLORA will pay a fraction more to take a dip in the local swimming pool under proposed admission fee increases.
A swim will cost 10c more for adults and 5c more for children according to a Southern Downs Regional Council spokesperson.
While the increase is less than the price of a lolly pop, some Allora residents say it's an unfair fee for families already struggling to make ends meet.
"I am totally against this,” Kerry Ann Denné said in a submission to the Southern Downs Regional Council's draft 2018-19 budget.
"It is enough for families to bare the costs every day without added expenses.
"Some are not coping and making ends meet.”
But 2018 Allora Pool lessees Bill and Linda Lacy said residents didn't know how good they had it.
"It's the cheapest pool around.”
In the previous swimming season, Allora pool patrons paid $1.80 for children and $2.70 for adults.
In comparison, Warwick swimmers pay $4.50 for a concession admission and $5.70 for an adult.
"They are on a good thing, they just don't know it,” Mrs Lacy said.
Mrs Lacy said she was conscious of the cost on large families, but the fee increase was minimal.
Mr and Mrs Lacy are awaiting the Southern Downs Regional Council to release a new call for tender for the lease of the Allora pool.
Allora, Killarney and Stanthorpe pools are now closed for winter and will re-open on October 1.
