Swimmers win selection in Downs primary school team

FOUR Southern Downs swimmers have paddled and kicked their way into the Darling Downs primary school swimming team after making the cut at Wednesday's trials.

The trials, originally meant to be held in Gatton, were moved to Milne Bay at Toowoomba at the last minute.

Warwick West student Brendan Hoffman, 12-years-old, had an outstanding performance qualifying in seven of the nine events he entered in.

Hoffman will compete in the 100m and 50m butterfly, 100m and 50m backstroke, the 200m medley, 100m freestyle and the 50m freestyle.

Ella Hudson, also 12-years-old, qualified for the 50m and 100m breaststroke events and the 50m freestyle.

Lucy Mantova from Clifton will compete in the 50m freestyle event after clocking 35.27 seconds in her race on Wednesday.

Ten-year-old William Gilmore swam a 46.29 in his 50m backstroke earning him a spot in the team.
