Swimming medals for four from Southern Downs

SWIMMING: Tom Winter, Will Gilmore, Cooper Harm and Henry Reardon have all won medals during the Queensland Schools Swimming Championships at Chandler.

The 13-19 years championships were held late last week and the 10-12 years championships will finish tomorrow.

Winter, Gilmore (both Warwick club) and Harm (Allora club) all train under Andrew Fidge at WIRAC. Gilmore and Harm both live at Allora which adds to the sporting prowess of the best little town on the Downs.

Reardon, 13, is in his first year as a boarder at Toowoomba Grammar but Warwick is his home.

Winter was part of a gold medal winning Darling Downs 17-19 years four by 50m boys relay team.

Gilmore won bronze in the 14 years boys 50m butterfly.

Harm won his bronze medal in 11 years 50m backstroke this afternoon.

Reardon won silver in the 13-19 200m individual medley in multi class swimming and was fourth in five 13-15 years events, the 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly. He contested nine events in all at Chandler.

Liam Vickers made the final in 50m butterfly for 12 years boys and Emma Day was a finalist in 11 years 100m breaststroke. Both swim for the Warwick club.

Winter and Gilmore attend Scots PGC, Harm is a student at Allora State School and Vickers and Day are at Warwick West State School.

Fidge said 15 of his squad swimmers have represented Darling Downs in the state championships so far.

"Some of our swimmers have swum personal bests while for others it has been a great learning experience in their first state championships at Chandler,” he said.

On the final day of the championships, Cooper Harm (11 years), Liam Vickers (12 years), Alyssa White (11 years Warwick West) and Lily Osborne (12 years, St Mary's) will all compete in the 50m freestyle.

Heats will be held tomorrow morning with finals tomorrow afternoon.

The state championships will be the final carnival for Fidge's squad this season. They will resume training on May 15.
