Swing boost for team in Warwick A-grade final
CRICKET: Wheatvale has the finals experience but Rosewool Redbacks are the improving team in the run-up to the Condamine Cup A-grade preliminary final in Warwick.
The match will start at 10am Sunday at Slade Park. The winner will play Maryvale Condamine in the March 17 grand final.
Games have been extended from 40 to 50 overs a side for the final fortnight of the season in A grade.
Wheatvale captain Carter Bilbrough said his side would be at full strength except for the loss of wicket-keeper Carly Cooper due to polocrosse commitments.
"A few players may share the keeping role," Bilbrough said.
"We didn't have Steve Jones for the semi and his return will boost our bowling. He bowls medium pace in swingers and is one of the biggest swingers of the ball in Warwick cricket.
"Steve is a handy middle order batsman who can turn the game if he gets going."
Bilbrough said the key was getting quick wickets against Redbacks.
"Their key batsmen are Coen Slatter and Tyhe Clarkson and we have a few plans in mind for all their batsmen," Bilbrough said.
"Off spinner Riley Doherty is one of the best new talents in Warwick and we will bowl him in the middle overs against Redbacks.
"He finds a way to get wickets no matter who he is playing due to flight and accuracy."
Redbacks are the newest team in Warwick cricket and chasing their first grand final appearance.
If they make the season decider, the team will be boosted by the return of left arm orthodox spinner and classy batsman Justin Wheeler.
